17-year-old reveals to high school counselor his plans to go no contact with his parents after graduation, counselor tells parents, who confront their son: 'Why would you cut off your family?'

When you were in high school, have you ever told something to the guidance counselor under the impression that they were going to keep it between the two of you?

Well, apparently, not every counselor keeps the details of their conversations with students private. Some, like the counselor in the story below, even find it necessary to tell parents about what their kids say during their sessions.

This 17-year-old son has planned a pretty clear path for his future, one that does not include his parents or his siblings. He feels like he can't be around them anymore, mostly due to his father's parenting, or lack thereof, when it comes to his younger siblings. So the teen's plan is clear–graduate, get his own place, and cut contact with the family.

After he told this plan to his high school counselor, he was surprised to learn that the counselor revealed it to his parents, who were hurt to discover their son's intentions to cut them off from his life.
